Seeing each other through the arts.

With One Voice
Music as social change

Conceived by British NGO Streetwise Opera, With One Voice is an international programme that uses art as an instrument for social change and offers artistic capacity building to homeless and artistic groups composed by this population. After the presentation of more than 300 artists who have been homeless at the Royal Opera House in the Cultural London Olympics 2012, Rio 2016 also had an official platform for them to perform. The Brazilian delegation, composed by members from Movimento dos Trabalhadores Sem Teto (Shelterless Workers Movement), NGOs, academics and government representatives, has been to Manchester and London to visit British institutions to know their work and bring to Brazil the acquired knowledge, shared by means of workshops, seminars and performances in the areas of theatre, choir, percussion, poetry and circus. Sixteen members from six countries also introduced ways of working artistically with the street population, showing that one can have measurable impacts through art projects by improving their life conditions and social inclusion.

With One Voice is made possible thanks to a partnership between the British Council, Streetwise Opera, Secretaria de Desenvolvimento Social do Rio de Janeiro, Movimento Nacional de População de Rua, People’s Palace Project e Gulbekian Foundation.
