April 2013

In a partnership with Birds Eye View Film Festival as it celebrates Arab Women Filmmakers in London for the first time, we're thrilled to be welcoming a delegation of 20 women filmmakers and film professionals from across the Middle East to join us and meet UK audiences

Birds Eye View Film Festival kicked off its 2013 programme with a triumphant special screening of Wadjda from Saudian Arabian renaissance woman Haifaa Al-Mansour, as a fitting way to celebrate International Women’s Day on 8 March 2013.  After this exceptional 'taster' gala, BEV's festival is set to take over venues across London including the BFI Southbank, Barbican, ICA & Hackney Picturehouse from 3-10 April, giving UK audiences a unique chance to be inspired by work coming from the region.

With screenings selected across a theme of ‘Celebrating Arab Women Filmmakers', British Council Film is delighted to be supporting a delegation of twenty filmmakers and film professionals from across the Middle East and North Africa. The delegates will benefit from a packed programme including a series of round table discussions with leading industry figures, sessions on audience and marketing, an industry brunch offered by BAFTA to discuss the creative challenges of working in the Middle East and North Africa, and of course a panel event in association with British Council Film on working internationally.

We are thrilled to be welcoming filmmakers from the following countries:

  • Bahrain
  • Egypt
  • Jordan
  • Kuwait
  • Libya
  • Occupied Palestinian Territories
  • Qatar
  • UAE

The festival opens with a gala screening of Annemarie Jacir’s multi-award winning When I Saw You, at BFI Southbank on 3 April - and you can see the full programme here

We're looking forward to our delegation meeting audiences and industry reps from the UK - and we're equally excited about the lessons and inspiration the UK industry can take from this extraordinary group.
